A stone’s throw from our 4-star hotel in Vitrolles and its Golden Tulip restaurant, étang de Berre has some lovely surprises in store for you. To discover them, you can follow hiking trail GR2013 running along Jaï lido, the stretch of sand that separates étang de Berre and étang de Bolmon. Here, you can admire contrasting landscapes where dunes run into lagunas, marshes, reed beds, wet meadows, dry grasslands and pine forests. To better get to know étang de Berre, you can continue your walk on GR2013 along the west bank, until Ranquet beach and Romaniquette beach, near Istres old town. At the heart of the medieval city, you can walk along étang de l’Olivier, recognizable thanks to its water stream, which is the highest in France. In summer, this is the launch site for the fireworks set off to close the famous “Jeudis étoilés” (Starry Thursdays).
